I was once told by the Pro at a local golf club here that the professionals on the PGA Tour only hit what they are aiming at 60% of the time or less. So, where does that leave us hackers? I’ve also heard it said that golf is. ” a good walk ruined” . Whatever your feelings there are certainly a great variety of courses here to test these theories.
Of course there is the iconic Pebble Beach links that seems to be know worldwide by both professional and amateur alike. However there are many other golf venues here to test your skill and patience and treat you to some great scenery at the same time.
Along with Pebble there is Spyglass Hill which offers some very unique challenges, Poppy Hill, Cypress (very private), Monterey Peninsula Country Club (also private), Spanish Bay ( a links course) and the cool little Peter hay course where you can refine your “short game”. Outside of the Pebble Beach area there are some fine and affordable courses such as Old Del Monte (the oldest course on the West coast), Pacific Grove Muni, Rancho Canada and Laguna Seca.
Now if you want something more dramatic and always sunny you can try Carmel Valley Ranch (must be a guest of the hotel or member), Tehama (private so you have to know someone), Quail Lodge (semi-private), The Santa Lucia Preserve ( also private so find a member, it will be worthwhile) and Corral de Tierra Country Club (private)
So if you are a fan of the other 4 letter word you couldn’t pick a better place to visit.
If you book a rental through Haute Shelter we can arrange for a round or two at some of these private courses!
